Mom’s creations September 24, 2007

Posted by Craig Nelsen in : 7. Jean Magnuson , 6comments

Mom was pretty creative as most of you know.  Sewing and crafts occupied a lot of her time after retiring, even to the extent that she found herself the President and Director of the Arts Club in Bella Vista, AR.  This picture shows some of the things she “created” for the Christmas season at the Arts Gallery there in B.V.  While I think all of her kids still have quilts Mom made for us, the little decorative things shown here had kind of slipped my mind until I came across this photo and asked Claudia about it.  I have more photos and with Marty’s guidance I’ll try to get a photo album started over on the family photo page.

More Authors Needed September 23, 2007

Our blog is “growing like Topsy”, which is fun because it shows how one thought generates another, and off we go on another interesting tangent.  It’s good that the right hand column alerts us to new Posts as well as new Comments, so we don’t miss anything.  However, if you are beginning to wonder why the same few seem to be writing all the “Posts”, it is because they are “Authors” (and we’re getting lonely!).

An author can originate a “Post” upon which others (author or not) can add a “Comment”.  A “Post” generally suggests a new idea or a different timeline or a different story that the author thinks others might be interested in adding to with commentary.  Example: the story about the teachers staying with the Magnuson family on the farm could generate lots of new memories about winter on the farm, or about teachers in general, or about schooling in those days.  Becoming an “author” on this blog is as simple as getting in touch with Marty at birdmd@gmail.com.  Join us!

More Pictures = More Stories September 20, 2007

I’ve enjoyed the input about Helen.  She always put me in mind of Lauren Bacall or Katherine Hepburn because of her elegance and style.  She and George visited us in Boise (Bonnie’s and Vi’s families) and later on we got to know Floyd as well.  Both good men and well suited to Helen, though very different from one another.  George was flamboyant and exuberant and they loved giving gifts.  One summer he and Helen brought leather cowboy and cowgirl outfits, complete with guns and holsters, for Vicki, Natalie and I.  Didn’t we think we were the cat’s meow!!  I’ll get a picture of all of us into Helen’s photo album, so you can all see what fun we had.  After George died, Mother and Teresa moved to Helen’s home in Oakland and lived there for a couple years before returning to the Boise house.  I’ll let Teresa tell that story.

I’ve created an album of pictures of Vi, and will be adding more later on. The album can be found at the dotphoto website. There are several Magnuson albums there, and easiest access is through clicking on “View Photos Here” which is located directly under the Google logo at the top right of this screen. If the pictures bring up memories, please share your stories with all of us on this blog!

dianeandmikewedding.jpgOkay, Barbara and all other interested parties. Here is a picture of our wedding, August 18, 1962.

I am surprised Mother didn’t deluge you with pictures; she worked very hard to make the day perfect, and it was! Mike & I turned 22 and 21 that summer; we look about 13, don’t we?
